Yu Suzuki will host a live stream event later today to mark the end of Shenmue 3‘s Kickstarter campgin, the famed creator has announced.

With around 8 hours left to go, Shenmue 3 is currently sitting at $5,512,682 raised. That’s well over Suzuki’s goal of 2 million dollars, but still short of the $10 million he claims is required to make Shenmue 3 a genuine open-world game.

In a video update released to mark the campaign entering its final day of fundraising, Suzuki thanked backers and expressed his hope that more money can be raised before the Kickstarter ends.

“Since Shenmue 3 was announced a month has already gone by,” Suzuki says in the update. “In a matter of eight hours, we reached our goal of $2 million and rewrote the Guinness World Record for fastest game to reach $1 million.”

“I believe we can make another miracle happen with Shenmue in these next 24 hours,” he continued. “You and I have had a shared dream for the past 15 years. Now it’s time to make our dream of Shenmue 3 a reality.”
