Immensely popular side-scrolling 2d MOBA Awesomenauts has received a new expansion, available now on Steam Early Access, developer Ronimo Games has announced.

The new Starstorm expansion currently adds a new playable character, Ted McPain, and the ability to host custom games. Many more features are planned to be added over time, to be automatically unlocked for anyone who owns this early version. In its final form, the expansion will contain another 4 new characters, a spectator mode, a new map, a custom game browser and a replay system.

In addition to the early access, two new premium character skins have been released to accompany the expansion - Titanium Ted and Party Boy McPain.

Originally released on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network in May last year with PC and Mac versions following last August, the game quickly picked up a large audience thanks to its chaotic multiplayer battles, keen sense of humor and wonderful graphics. It went on to achieve critical acclaim from a number of gaming publications.

There’s currently no word whether the expansion will be released on consoles, but the PlayStation 4 is receiving a port of the game, so it seems like a safe bet (no word on the Xbox One or Wii U, however).

Costing $8.99, £5.99 or €7.99 depending on where you are in the world, you can pick up the expansion now by following this link. In the meantime, you can check out Starstorm in the trailer below.
