During Nintendo’s digital E3 press conference a new trailer for the Zelda-themed Dynasty Warriors game, Hyrule Warriors was shown off. Although it isn’t the only Dynasty Warriors spin-off at E3 it is arguably the most interesting - not least because players will be able to play as three Zelda heroines in addition to Link.
Princess Zelda herself (in some spiffy looking armor) will be waging war across Hyrule with the iconic Light Arrows. Impa, who is part of a lineage of royal family guardians, will also be playable. Finally, players will be able to lay waste to enemies with the diminutive Midna of Twilight Princess fame; Midna pulverizes enemies with a massive fist fashioned from her hair.
During their press conference Nintendo clarified that Hyrule Warriors would include local co-op play without split-screen; one player uses the television whilst the other uses the Wii U GamePad’s display, meaning both players have a full display to themselves.
Hyrule Warriors is being developed by Team Ninja who have previously collaborated with Nintendo on Metroid: Other M. The game is set for release exclusively for the Wii U on September 26th. You can see a slightly extended version of the E3 trailer below.
