Capcom has announced that a remake of Resident Evil 2 is in the works.
Following Capcom taking to Facebook to ask fan interest in a Resident Evil 2 remake, and the fan remake of the same game, it seems Capcom has finally decided it’s going to go forward with the Resident Evil 2 remake project. Producer and project lead, Yoshiaki Hirabyashi, turned to the official Resident Evil Facebook page to announce the project via a YouTube video.
Hirabyashi is excited about the opportunity to remake what is considered by many fans to be the hight point Resident Evil 2 fans. “It’s been great to see so many positive comments from fans that have pushed the project to get approved,” the director says in the video. “The team here at Capcom Japan really appreciates fans’ passion and support and will do our best to bring fans what they really want.”
While the Resident Evil 2 remake is moving forward, Hirabyashi states that it’s unlikely well get more news on the project for some time. At the moment there’s no release date, platform information, or pretty much anything confirmed, though it seems likely that a release on PS4, Xbox One and PC is inevitable.
Following the success of the Resident Evil HD remake, and with Resident Evil 0 HD confirmed to be in the works, it’s not much of a surprise that another reinvention is in the works. Hopefully this proves to be another remake the fans can look forward to, although I doubt that’ll be much in the way of surprises coming out of this title.
