Speculation surrounding a new expansion for Diablo 3 has been renewed today, after developer Blizzard posted a new job vacancy looking to fill the position of Art Director on an unannounced project.
Hidden within the job description as a desired trait is “A passion for games with a deep understanding of the Diablo franchise” – a potential hint that Blizzard is cooking up its next sojourn into the world of Sanctuary.
Diablo 3 was first released in 2012 on Windows PC and Mac, with a console version on PS3 and Xbox 360 following in 2013. The game’s first expansion, Reaper of Souls came out last year on PC, Mac, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. It was bloody good, too, garnering an impressive 9/10 score from yours truly in my review.
At Gamescom last week, Blizzard announced news for Starcraft II: Legacy of the Void, Overwatch, Hearthstone – and announced the latest expansion for the long-running MMO World of Warcraft. Diablo 3 was conspicuous by its absence, prompting speculation that the studio is holding something back for its annual Blizzcon event in November. Could this job listing be the first confirmation that another Diablo 3 expansion is in the works?
Blizzard is currently keeping tight-lipped on its plans, but don’t be surprised if the developer is keeping something big up its sleeves for when Blizzcon 2015 kicks off on November 6.
In the more immediate future, Blizzard is gearing up to release patch 2.30 for the game. The latest update is planned to add a raft of new features to the game, such as new Legendary items, areas, and more. You can read more about that here, and check out the preview trailer below.
