Xbox One has sold over one million consoles in the UK and has beaten PlayStation 4 sales in the last three weeks.
The recent success in sales is attributed to the release of new major titles like Sunset Overdrive, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and Halo: The Master Chief Collection. The additional hardware options such as the white Xbox One and the single-terabyte Call of Duty special edition console. Finally, the promotions from retailers has had a significant impact in increasing sales.
Xbox UK marketing director Harvey Eagle said: “This momentum is reflected in the UK, particularly over the last three weeks, which is extremely encouraging as we approach the Christmas shopping period. People buy consoles to play the best games, and Xbox One is home to the best games. Halo: The Master Chief Collection is one of the highest rated next-gen console games released, Sunset Overdrive is the highest-rated new franchise on any next-gen console and Forza Horizon 2 is the highest rated driving game on any next gen console.”
While this is good new for Microsoft, the Xbox One still has a ways to go before catching up to the PlayStation 4 in other markets; however, with new upcoming titles like Quantum Break, Fable Legends and Halo 5: The Guardians, Microsoft is optimistic.
With the Xbox One’s birthday today, prizes are being doled out, while all Xbox Live Gold subscribers can enjoy a free copy of Sunset Overdrive for the next 24 hours. It looks like Microsoft is riding high on a cresting wave, and the upcoming holiday season will have more to contribute to the console’s success or potential decline – only time will tell.
