Fans of the Monster Hunter franchise will be excited to know that one of the PSP classics, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite will be coming to iOS.
Freedom Unite, based on the Japanese title Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G is effectively Monster Hunter 2.5; though there is no real cannonical timeline to the franchise, the original version of this game was released in 2008 (2009 if you live in the West).
While most Hunters will have played this game to death – or at the very least the death of their UMDs – the original PSP is now redundant and not many are likely to have bought the Vita port which was identical to the original game; the iOS port however, includes several new features such as HD graphics, touch screen controls (obviously), target camera options and “seamless” co-op multiplayer quests.
Capcom also took a moment to remind us that Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate will be released in the West in early 2015 on the 3DS, with the usual additions of new monsters and weapon classes, but featuring the same co-op adventures which fans have come to love.
The announcement came with a series of screens which will come with a warning: these will give nostalgia pangs as strong as Lao-Shan Lung’s scales.
[Editors note: despite personally playing over 300 hours of Freedom Unite, I will be getting this on Day One.]
